We then drove down to Vouliagmeni and has coffee and took a walk. Everyone is extra relaxed this weekend, because in Greece it is a three day weekend, Monday is a public holiday. It is the so called Ash Monday / Clean Monday or Kathara Deftera in Greek.
This marks the start of the fasting. If you follow it, you are not suppose to eat animal foods and foods produced by animals for 40 days. Some Greeks do follow this, and when I went to buy turkey slices, there were way fewer people at the counter. Another tradition for this day is to go out in the country side and fly the kites! *I am not sure what the connection is actually between the two - anyways - on Monday we will see thusands of kites....*
