Summer holidays in Sweden

So I was looking through my pictures to Sweden to post on the blog, surely I must have taken some shots of geourgous summer Stockholm ? The old houses in Gamla Stan? The brige and sea at Strandvägen ? The classic shot At Slussen? Apparently not! Apart from a zillion photos of my little girl , which I keep private I had photos of food... Food... And more food!

I love Greek and Mediterranean cuisine but being away from Sweden makes me truly miss these dishes:

The blog has taken a looong holiday break. Too much sun, fun, family, baby, travel  and friends.... Computer and blogging just Wasnt on top of my agenda....

The Greek summer has been - no is- fantastic ! This year hasn't been too hot, which meant lots of great days out in the sun. This weekend We visited Hydra, my number one favorite island. im

Like? Just two hours away from athens you get Great food, cozy boutique hotels , crystal clear waters, beautiful neo classical buildings, amazing views, sunsets, dolphins -if you are lucky... Could It get better ?

Hydra

We spent Greek Easter on the beautiful island Hydra. Just one and a half hour from Athens one finds a total gem. The island has no cars, just gorgeous houses, bright colored flowers and mountains raising above. On every corner you find small shops, art galleries, tavernas and coffee shops. The little town is tiny and after just a day you feel right at home. We stayed right in the harbour with a perfect view

New Years in Napflio

Jag har skrivit om Napflio tidigare. En super mysig stad som ligger ca 2 tim fran Aten. Ett perfekt weekend mal. Det finns mysiga butiker, cafeer, fina hus och en vacker 'old town'. Nu till jul var det extra fint med julgranar och dekorationer . Vi firade nyar har. M gillade verkligen att aka bil och byta miljo, hon var pa stralande humor hela helgen min lilla dam.

Napflio, just two hours a way from Athens, is a perfect weekend destination. It has it all. Nice shops, places to eat, history, beautiful buildings and an old town with castles. Baby M looved to travel, she slept the whole car ride and was super happy all weekend. She seems to like to travel, meet new people, go to parties and stay in hotels - my little girl !

The lost Unicorn

Vi bor på det mysiga hotellet The Lost Unicorn, en boutiquehotell i mitt i en liten by i Mt Pilio. Det är lietet hotell med bara med 10 rum eller så. Det finns en bibliotek med massor av böcker, spel, filmer och en öppen spis. Frukosten är traditionell engelsk med färskt bröd, hemgjord marmelad, scrambled ägg ... Sen har de har också söta katter som krypa upp när man sitter i soffan...

We stay at the Lost Unicorn, an boutique hotel in the  hear of a small village. It is very cozy, just with 10 rooms or so.  There is a libray with lots of books, board games, movies and a fire place. The breakfast in traditional English with fresh bread, home made jams, scrambled eggs ... They also have cute cats that curl up when you sit in the sofa.

Greek Easter

Grekisk påsk är en tre dagar lång högtid. Här är en mini sammanfattning: På fredag ​​kvällen  går alla runt byn med en 'grav' fylled med blommer som symboliserar att Jesus dog. På lördagen vid midnatt (Jesus återuppstod) har alla fina ljus och fyrverkerier. På natten äter man speciell mat, soppa, ägg ... etc. Finally, på söndagen grillas det lamm på spett...

Greek Easter is a three day celebration. Here is a mini summary: Friday night has a procession with a flower grave so symbolize Jesus passing away .Saturday at midnight is the celebration that Jesus resurrected and people have candles with 'the holy light' and there is fireworks. At night you eat special food,soup, eggs... etc.. finally, on Sunday you grill a lamb and eat and drink lots...

I'm back :)

Halloj igen ... Det har varit ett tag sen, men nu är jag tillbaka och bloggar igen. Det var så mycket på gång den senaste veckan: Alla hjärtans dag, familjen på besök från Sverige, en resa till Istanbul och min födelsedag. Låt oss börja med Istanbul ... Det är bara en 1 timmes flygning från Athen, men det är något helt annat och mycket vackert. Det är verkligen att början av the East. Istanbul är en enorm storstad med över 13 miljoner invånare (!). Staden är omgiven av hav på alla sidor: Marmarasjön, Golden Horn, Bosporen och Svarta havet, vilket gör det verkligen vackert.

Well hello again... It's been a while but now i am back and blogging again. So much has been going on, Valentines day, family visiting from Sweden, a trip to Istanbul & my birthday. Let's start with Istanbul... It is just a 1 hour flight from Athens, but it is something totally different and very beautiful. It is truly the begining of the East. Istanbul is huge with over 13 million inhabitants (!). The city is  surrounded by sea on all sides: the Sea of Marmara, the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Black Sea, which makes it really pretty. It is the cultural, economic, and financial center of Turkey.

Grand Bazar

Vi tillbringade två dagar i Grand Bazar, det är en inomhus marknad med över 4000 butiker. De säljer allt fråndiamanter, päls, scarfs, mattor och porslin. Man måste pruta mycket om priset. De talar engelska, men många kunde grekiska och svenska. När jag sa att jag var från Grekland, gav de mig direkt bra priser eftersom de visste om den ekonomiska krisen och sa att de är mycket färre grekiska turister nu :(

We spent two days in the Grand Bazar, an indoor market with over 4000 small shops. They sell everything from diamonds, furs, scarves, rugs and porcelain. You have to argue a lot about the price, they start off with 100 euros for a scarf and then I got it for 5 or 10 Euros. They speak English, but many also spoke Greek and Swedish. When I said I was from Greece, they gave me straight away great prices because they knew about the economic crisis here and said that they are has been a big drop Greek tourists now: (

Mosque

Vi besökte alla berömda moskéerna inklusive Sultan Ahmed Mosque (också känt som Blå moskén) & HagiaSophia som var den grekiska Patriarchal cathedral och senare en moské och slutligen ett museum. Det var så svårt att få bra bilder inne på grund av ljuset. Här är några försök .

We visited all the famous mosques including Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also know as the Blue Mosque)  & Hagia Sophia which was Greek Patriarchal cathedral and later a mosque and finally a museum. It was so difficult to get good photos inside because of the light. Here are a few attempts...

The blog takes a holiday. I have visitors from Sweden & other fun stuff going on this week. Will be back soon. 

One year ago

Dags för en ' trip down memory lane'. Förra julen var en av de kallaste vintrarna på decennier i Stockholm. Det var - 18C och vi hade massor av snö. Det var magiskt och så vackert....

 

Let's take a trip down trip down memory lane. Last Christmas was one of the coldest winters for decades in Stockholm. It was - 18C and we had tons and tons of snow. It was magical and so beautiful.

Vid 16:00 tiden ser Stockholm ut så här. I år tyckte jag det var mycket mer ljus och lampor, vilket var mysigt! Granen nere vid Slottet/ Skeppsbron är den högsta i Norden. Fast det är ett träd, utan ihop satt av många många julgranar som en skulptur. Fin var det i alla fall . I ♥ my home town Stockholm ... det är alltid så underbart att vara hemma och träffa familjen och vännerna, men det är alltid super sorgligt att säga hej då. Varför kan inte Sverige och Grekland vara liiite  närmare?

At 4 pm Stockholm looks like this. This year they put many more lights.  The Christmas tree at Skeppsbron is the tallest in Scandinavia. Although it is not just one tree, it is made from many Christmas trees and is more of a sculpture. I ♥ my home town Stockholm ... It is always so wonderful to see everyone back home, but it is always super sad to say bye. Why can't sweden and greece be closer?!
